English-Speaking Chiropractor in Istanbul
Looking for a chiropractor or physiotherapist in Istanbul who speaks English? We see patients at two locations on the Asian side: chiropractic and physiotherapy with Uzm. Fzt. Ahmet Burak Bayır in Ataşehir, and physiotherapy and manual therapy with Fzt. Mehmet Berat Özkaya at ChiroCare in Kozyatağı, Kadıköy. At both locations the whole visit, from the first assessment to your home exercises, can be in English.
Which location should I choose?
Choose Ataşehir if you are looking for chiropractic care; chiropractic adjustments are performed only there, by Ahmet Burak Bayır. Choose Kadıköy (Kozyatağı) for physiotherapy, manual therapy and rehabilitation, for example after a sports injury or for ongoing back and neck pain. What problems can you help with?
Most people come to us with pain or stiffness in the spine and joints. Common reasons for a visit include:
- Lower back pain, herniated discs and sciatica
- Neck pain, neck stiffness and tension headaches
- Upper back pain and posture problems
- Spinal stenosis and scoliosis
- Jaw (TMJ) problems
- Shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle pain
- Sports injuries and rehabilitation after an injury
What happens at the first visit?
The first visit starts with a conversation about your complaint, how it started and what makes it better or worse. This is followed by an assessment of your posture and spinal movement and the orthopaedic and neurological tests that are relevant to you. You will then hear what we found and what we suggest. If nothing in the assessment speaks against it, treatment can start in the same session.
If you have an MRI, X-ray or a doctor’s report, please bring it along; it is helpful but not required. Comfortable clothes make the assessment easier.
How long is a session and how many will I need?
Sessions usually last about 60 minutes. The number of sessions depends on the type of problem, how long you have had it, your general health and what we find in the assessment, so we do not promise a fixed number in advance. After the first assessment you will get an expected treatment plan. Most plans also include exercises to do at home between sessions.
Is chiropractic safe, and is it right for everyone?
Chiropractic care is not suitable for every person or every problem, which is why every treatment starts with an assessment. When chiropractic adjustments are not the right choice, other manual therapy or physiotherapy methods are used instead. If the assessment suggests that you need imaging or a medical doctor’s evaluation, we will tell you.

Can I use my private health insurance?
At our Ataşehir location we work directly with Allianz, Anadolu Sigorta, Medisa Sigorta and Türkiye Sigorta, so payment can be made directly through these insurers. If you have a different private insurer, you receive an invoice that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement; how much is reimbursed depends on your policy. Private health insurance is not accepted at our Kadıköy location.

Frequently asked questions
Is the whole session in English?
Yes. At both locations the assessment, the explanation of the findings, the treatment and your home exercises can all be in English.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No, you do not need a referral from a doctor. You can book an appointment directly with us. During your initial consultation, we will assess your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your needs.
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
An adjustment should not be painful. You may hear a popping sound, but the sound itself is not the goal; which joint is treated, and how, depends on the assessment. In the first day or two afterwards you may feel mild muscle soreness, tiredness or local tenderness, similar to after exercise, which usually settles quickly. Pain that gets worse or spreads, or numbness or weakness, is not expected; if this happens, tell your practitioner.
Can I come during pregnancy?
Yes, you are welcome to visit us during pregnancy. We tailor our approach to your individual needs and stage of pregnancy, always prioritising your safety and comfort. We recommend consulting your obstetrician before starting treatment.
Do you offer chiropractic in Kadıköy?
No. Chiropractic adjustments are performed only in Ataşehir by Ahmet Burak Bayır. In Kadıköy (Kozyatağı) we offer physiotherapy, manual therapy and rehabilitation.
